When he says buy,
we say short.
When he says sell,
we say hold.

The Contrarian Indicator tracks a prominent financial TV personality's loudest, most confident calls — and inverts them. The thesis is simple: when someone becomes retail's compass, they become institutional exit liquidity. We measure the gap between conviction and outcome.

Confidence is the
tell.

The loudest calls — the ones delivered with maximum certainty on live television — are the most reliable inverse signals. Not because the analyst is stupid, but because by the time a call reaches that level of conviction and broadcast reach, the institutional trade is already complete.

Retail hears "buy" and buys. Institutions who bought six weeks ago hear "buy" and sell into the momentum. The TV appearance is the exit, not the entry.

The Contrarian Indicator scores calls by confidence level, broadcast reach, and ticker liquidity — and weights the inverse signal accordingly. Quiet, hedged takes are ignored. Maximum conviction is maximum signal.
